SandpipersWatching the seaAt the Beach Joyful, yet troubled, Knowing we are Like the sandpipers; Dashing so fast, Tiny legs blurring, Carrying them Up the beach, Away from endless Waves, running As we do, Away from God's love. Like those jittery birds Racing back To receding water, Pecking, picking At food; We absorb parts Of God's love That cause little trouble. We seek fast food, Quick snacks Then back away, Never permitting That massive love To engulf us. Why don't we Seek God's love Like the gull or pelican, Searching for food, Plunging head-on Into surging waves From great heights? A jarring blow to the head And morsels are the reward For their pain and risk. They live in it, Fly into it, Float on it, Dive deeply into it. Could we follow The gull and pelican, Plunging into God's love? What is our fear? That we will die in God's love? |
